2010 World Refugee Day Community festival Soccer tournament will be played on Sunday the 27^th of June 2010 at the Annerley Soccer club. Gurkha FC has been invited to participate.

NOTE - Due to the large numbers of teams in last year’s World Refugee Day Soccer tournament it has been decided that there will be a qualifying day on Sunday the 20th of June 2010 at the Moreton Bay Sports Club, Boundary Street, Tingalpa [Wolves Soccer club]. Therefore, Quarter, Semi and Grand finals will be played on the 2010 World Refugee Day Community festival on Sunday the 27^th of June 2010 at the Annerley Soccer club.

2010 World Refugee Day QUALIFYING – Sunday the 20th of June 2010

• Games will consist of two 25 minute halves with no time added and a 5 min half time break (drink). After the first 25 minute period, teams are to swap ends. No extra time in fixtures. (1 hour games).
• REFEREES have been told ALL GAMES will and MUST start game on TIME.
• GOAL difference is crucial, so if a team is LATE, referees WILL start the game.
• There will be UNLIMITED interchanges.
• There is also an award for FAIR PLAY so accuracy of yellow/red cards WILL be taken by ALL officials.
• Penalties APPLY for red card sanctions. (Player will miss following game).

• Penalties APPLY for red card sanctions. (Player will miss following game).

The friendly match against local Brisbane team – Warriors FC kicked off at around 3:00pm, yesterday. Our opponents seem to give us an early lead with 4- 0 at half time. Despite scoring 4 goals in the 2nd half of the game we conceded another two goals making the final score at 6-4. Great friendly match!

Our players had skills and moves to show which made the game entertaining and enjoyable.

It seems our players are still in a holiday mood. Our league will be starting in a couple of weeks, hopefully we can get our spirits back by then. Any new footballers interested to participate, please email at management@gurkhafc.com.

The friendly match against the Brisbane Malaysian Football team kicked off at around 4:00pm, yesterday. Our opponents scored the first goal followed by a goal from our ace striker, Manish. However our opponent managed to squeeze another goal making the final score 2-1 in their favour.

A friendly match against a Brisbane Malaysian Team is scheduled for the 7th of March (3:30pm). Match will be played at the End of Langley Avenue/End of Murray street, New Market (it’s about 5 minutes walk from the Wilson train station).

If you’re like most footballers, you’re making two huge mistakes with your game play. You’re suffering from fitness and intelligence.

Don’t believe me? Imagine watching your favourite football team in the stadium where all players are unfit and don’t read the game right.

How motivated would you be to go watch their next games?

Fitness

Take some time off in your busy lives and do cardio for 1-2 hours a week (running, cycling, rowing, climbing, etc). If it seems impossible, then break it down to half an hour a day. The important thing is to break your daily cycle with some physical activity in it. This helps reduce the probability of getting injured in matches.

Intelligence

The next time you watch the EPL or La Liga, observe the captain. See the determination, style of play, man marking and communication. Most captains are intelligent players. To play like one you’d have to think like one. Football is not ‘only’ about scoring goals, it’s also about enjoying the game, because if all players are enjoying, then you play an intelligent game which is beyond winning (team work).

The El Salvador League will be starting in a couple of weeks. It’s time to start preparing and feeling the Gurkha football vibe.

Get fit and Intelligent on the field. It’s the only way to play beautiful football.

A match was played on the 25th of January to raise funds for the Haiti earthquake. Even Baichung Bhutia participated alongside Zidane, Kaka, Figo and other star players. He scored the final goal. Check out the video above for highlights from the game.
